Abstract:

 

This handbook was drafted as a resource for parliamentarians to raise awareness of human trafficking and to take measures to stop the practice.  Eight chapters include: "The international legal framework to combat trafficking in persons"; "Defining trafficking in persons in national legislation"; "Criminalizing and penalizing all forms of trafficking in persons"; "Recognizing trafficked persons as victims entitled to internationally recognized human rights"; "Preventing trafficking in persons"; "Measures to combat the crime of trafficking in personsinternationally"; "Monitoring and reporting on anti-human trafficking activities"; "Enhancing the role of civil society."  Annexes list international instruments, national legislation and national plans of action.
