Abstract:

A background paper prepared to inform discussions during the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC) workshop, "Environmental Change and Displacement: Assessing the Evidence and Developing Norms for Response," which was held 8-9 January 2009.  It provides context for the debate about the relationships between environmental change and forced migration, examines the empirical evidence for any relationships, and identifies gaps in research.  Approximately 90 references are listed.
