Global Protection Cluster Working Group. 2007. Handbook for the Protection of Internally Displaced Persons. Provisional ed. Geneva: Inter-Agency Standing Committee.
Abstract:
In 2005 during a review of the international humanitarian response system, the protection of internally displaced persons (IDPs) was identified as a significant gap. This handbook was produced in order to address this gap. Its aim is "to improve the quality of the response developed for IDPs..." (p. 1) by providing information and guidance to the field staff of international organizations who work in situations of internal displacement. The handbook will be tested for a year, and re-released at the end of 2008 once feedback and lessons learned have been incorporated. The six sections of the handbook cover protection basics, the human resource skills required to support protection work, strategies for protection response, how to address protection violations, and durable solutions. A French version of the handbook is also available.
