Abstract:

This resource was developed for the general public and civil society to raise awareness, inform policy responses, and promote greater accuracy in language. Terms were elaborated in consultation with international experts (a list is provided in the handbook).  Terms are grouped in three sections: Persons & Statuses; Terms & Concepts; and Concepts of Reference.  Each entry includes a definition and a comment section which provides background on and context for the term.  Icons are also assigned to indicate the scope and acceptance of a term's usage.
