Abstract:

 

The aim of this review is to assess the scientific literature relating to the trafficking of women and children into the United States for purposes of sexual exploitation.  The results discussion is organized under the following sub-sections: criminal justice definitions, extent of sex trafficking, impact, causes and explanation, the criminals, legal considerations, and criminal justice issues and response.  A subsequent section considers the economic aspects of sex trafficking.  Some 70 references are listed.
