Abstract:

The aim of this review was to critically assess existing literature on trafficking for sexual purposes, as well as identify key themes, trends, and gaps.  While the volume of research has increased, the quality of this research is often lacking.  The authors begin with an analysis of the concept of trafficking.  The next chapter looks at the type of research that has been conducted.  Most reports still draw conclusions based on the analysis of secondary data.  However, studies that collect primary data are increasing; the authors examine the methods employed for doing so.  Chapter four considers the variety of explanations provided for trafficking, while chapter five reviews counter-trafficking measures.  The final chapter discusses next steps. Over 100 references are listed.
