Reviews the major anthropological approaches towards disaster-related research, including "behavioral response," "social change," and "political economic/environmental."  The author also discusses the applied aspects of anthropological research in this area and the notion of hazard risk.  He notes in closing that disasters represent a natural laboratory for formulating anthropological theory.  The review includes 167 references.
