Abstract:

This literature review was undertaken to assess the impact of disease on children in complex emergencies and the main causes of morbidity and mortality, and to identify effective interventions.  Relief organizations were also surveyed to determine which guidelines were used for the care of children and to identify obstacles to care.  The authors conclude with recommendations for improving the health care of children in complex emergencies.  A description of the authors' search methodology is provided.  Approximately 180 references are listed.
