Collier, Bethany. 2007. Country of Origin Information and Women: Researching Gender and Persecution in the Context of Asylum and Human Rights Claims. London: Asylum Aid.

Abstract:

This guide was produced to assist country conditions researchers seeking information to support the asylum claims of women. As the introduction notes, "materials needed to substantiate women’s cases often relate to gendered experiences of violence and the socio-cultural fabric of the society women live in, and such information is not readily available in usual sources of Country of Origin Information (COI)" (p. 1). After an introduction to country of origin information, chapters cover specific issues raised in the context of women's asylum claims; types of gender persecution; and research strategies. The appendix includes the UK Home Office's instructions on gender issues in asylum claims and the International Association of Refugee Law Judges' checklist for assessing country of origin information.
