Abstract:

The authors of this article set out to review research undertaken on immigrant and refugee children in order to investigate how successfully they adapted to resettlement in Canada.  The discussion is organized around a model presented that conceptualizes "the effects of migration stresses and situational contingencies on health, well-being and achievement" (p. 67).  Variables considered include personal characteristics, pre-/post-migration stresses and resettlement outcomes, personal and social determinants of outcome, and successful adaptation.  Fifty-two references are listed.
