Coffey, Pamela Sumner, Amy Vallance Phariss, and Tamar Renaud. 2004. Literature Review of Trafficking in Persons in Latin America and the Caribbean. Washington, DC: U.S. Agency for International Development.

Abstract:

Review of literature produced between 1995 and 2004, in English, Spanish and Portuguese.  Both published and unpublished materials were examined.  The available research on trafficking of women for sexual exploitation in Latin America is limited; more studies have focused on children as the victims of trafficking.  Under-researched areas include the relationship between trafficking and issues such as child soldiers and forced labor.  The authors also reviewed literature on trafficking and migration more generally.  The final section considers legal and policy responses to trafficking.  The authors retrieved 140 relevant titles in their literature search; these are described in detail in the annotated bibliography in Annex 1.  An annotated list of relevant organizations is provided in Annex 2.
