Abstract:

This report reviewed literature to assess progress made in combating malnutrition in complex emergencies.  The authors focus on the use of the public nutrition approach.  They frame their discussion around the following areas:  nutritional assessment, food distribution, prevention and treatment of moderate and severe malnutrition and micronutrient deficiency diseases, and nutritional support for at-risk groups.  They highlight areas that require further investigation in their conclusion.  The databases searched as well as keywords used are listed.  The total number of references cited is 136.
