Johnson, Timothy P. 1996. "Alcohol and Drug Use among Displaced Persons: An Overview." Substance Use & Misuse 31 (13):1853-89.

Abstract:

The author reviews literature that examines the relationships between the displacement experience and substance use patterns.  His definition of "displaced persons" includes not only refugees, but also immigrants, homeless persons, and the institutionally displaced.  He begins his discussion with a look at studies of substance use by displaced population, then moves on to research into treatment options.  He appends an annotated bibliography of 33 references to his overview. Abstracts of the article are provided in Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese and Arabic.
