Abstract:

This working paper is one of 17 thematic reviews prepared for the World Commission on Dams' knowledge base on dams and development.  It focuses on the forced displacement that results from development projects such as dam construction.  The authors set out to review the experiences of people displaced by dams and the laws and policies that exist to protect affected populations.  The principal aim was to identify good practices for "successful" displacement outcomes.  A draft list of 34 references is included.
