McBrien, J. Lynn. 2005. "Educational Needs and Barriers for Refugee Students in the United States: A Review of the Literature." Review of Educational Research 75 (3):329-64.

Abstract:

This aim of this review is threefold: to better understand the needs of refugee children in the United States so that they can succeed in school; identify obstacles to success; and highlight promising interventions.  The author provides a detailed description of her search terms and source databases.  Articles from medical journals were excluded as were pre-1980 studies.  The author's discussion is framed around the aforementioned objectives.  The review concludes with a summary of gaps in the existing research literature.
