Forced Evictions: Violations of Human Rights. Global Forced Eviction Survey Series. Geneva: Centre on Housing Rights & Evictions, 1990-. Irregular.
Abstract:
The United Nations defines forced evictions as “the removal of individuals, families or communities from their homes, land or neighbourhoods, against their will, directly or indirectly attributable to the State.” This series monitors and reports on forced evictions that occur around the world. Each edition begins with an introduction that provides a useful overview of the causes and consequences of forced evictions, the relevant international legal instruments, and a snapshot of the global state of forced evictions. The bulk of the volume is devoted to country summaries, organized regionally, then alphabetically by country. Both actual evictions and threatened or planned evictions are covered. The first six surveys were regularly published between 1990 and 1994. Four years then passed before the seventh survey was produced, which covered the 1994-1997 period. Subsequently, Survey 8 covered 1998-2000, Survey 9 covered 2001-2002, Survey 10 covered 2003-2006, and Survey 11 covered 2007-2008. Note: COHRE closed its doors in 2012, and its web site temporarily disappeared. In the interest of stability, links to the archived versions of the Surveys, where available, are provided below. Unfortunately, not many libraries carry the print versions.
