Abstract:
This resource includes overviews of major refugee situations and disasters, both past and present, descriptions of the principal international and non-governmental organizations that provide emergency assistance, and profiles of key personalities. A range of basic refugee- and disaster-related concepts are also defined. Supplementing the A-Z entries are a timeline and an introduction which provide the historical context for significant refugee movements and disasters in the twentieth century. A bibliography of major studies on these issues is included (see separate entry).
