Abstract:
This title serves two functions: a state of the art overview of the role education presently plays in emergencies and reconstruction, and a guide for planning education in these two contexts. The author begins with definitions and background on the issue. She then organizes her discussion in four chapters that cover access to education in crisis and recovery, resources for education, special features of education, and co-ordination and capacity-building. Good practice principles of educational response are highlighted within each chapter. Finally, the author discusses how best these principles can be applied by both governments and other actors. The bibliography lists approximately 75 references.
