Abstract:
The authors review the public health issues of conflict-affected populations. These include primarily 1) high mortality rates caused by a variety of diseases (e.g., diarrheal diseases, measles, malaria, etc.), and 2) nutritional deficiencies. The paper also examines methods for mitigating the public health effects of conflict and complex emergencies through prevention and relief. Sixty-one references are cited.
