Abstract:

This chapter provides an overview of refugee research undertaken since the Second World War, with particular emphasis on that produced during the previous decade (1985-1995).  The author notes that while the volume of research has increased dramatically since 1979, a number of shortcomings characterize the quality of that research output.  He proceeds to frame his discussion around the types of approaches taken in the research: economic, legal, political and social theory.  He concludes with 10 recommendations to help guide subsequent research.  Thirty references are listed.
