Abstract:

This chapter begins with an overview of the key issues that concern researchers, particularly the question of how to define trafficking and its link to the quality of statistical data.  The article moves on to identify funders of research, the principal conductors of research, the primary methodologies used, the main focus of research, and the types of studies undertaken.  The review ends with a brief discussion of the primary research gaps.  Sixty-six references are listed.
