Abstract:

 

Given the body of knowledge that exists on the subject of refugees in Africa, the author elected to review the literature available on a number of key issues of concern.  These include: theoretical considerations; the magnitude of the African refugee problem; the problem of data on African refugees; causes of the African refugee problem; assistance; emergency aid; refugee camps; local settlements; organized vs. spontaneous settlements; refugee aid and development; and refugee impact on host societies.  A total of 216 references are listed in the bibliography.
