Abstract:
This review comprises the first part of a multi-country research project that investigated the "demand side of trafficking." It begins with a definitional analysis of the term "trafficking" and considers the methodological difficulties of undertaking research in this area. Section 2 delves into the concept of "demand." The next two sections examine the relationship between demand and trafficking in two sectors: sex work and domestic service. The report ends with a discussion of the policy implications. Over 200 references are listed.
